Two weeks in Nyantaboma: a volunteer's diary
Guest post25 August 20262 min read

I came out in July with eleven others from my university. We had been told to expect basic conditions and a warm welcome, and both turned out to be understatements.
Mornings were spent in classrooms, working alongside the teachers, mostly with reading groups. Afternoons were for the building site, where we dug foundation trenches with pickaxes and were out-dug by the local builders every single day. One afternoon we lost a football match to Primary 6.
What stays with me is how much the children want to be there. Some walk an hour each way. None of them take a desk for granted. If you are thinking about going: go.
